Reports: Davis Webb heading to California instead of Colorado

Former Texas Tech quarterback Davis Webb is transferring to a Pac-12 school. It's not Colorado, however.

Webb, who committed to Colorado earlier in 2016, is now transferring to California according to multiple reports including Fox Sports and BuffStampede.com. As a graduate transfer, Webb is eligible to play immediately.

Webb had signed financial aid papers with the Buffaloes when he committed but didn't sign anything binding. The agreement allowed him to make visits to other schools and he had previously visited the Bears. After word of his visit to Cal became public, Colorado coach Mike MacIntyre said he was optimistic Webb would still transfer to Colorado.

Webb, a former starter at Tech, would have been a huge boost to Colorado as the Buffaloes could be without quarterback Sefo Liufau in 2016 because of a foot injury. But now he'll be a huge boost for Cal. The Bears are looking to replace Jared Goff, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft.

Colorado co-offensive coordinator Darrin Chiaverini said he was proud of Webb for making a decision that was in his best interest.

After taking over for Baker Mayfield as Tech's QB in 2013, Webb started the 2014 season as Tech's starter. However, he was replaced by the end of the season by Patrick Mahomes, who kept the starting job for the 2015 season. After throwing 345 passes or more in each of the previous two seasons, Webb was 22-41 passing for 300 yards and two scores last season.
